Contact Lenses

The doctors at Larson Eye Care are experts at fitting all types of contact lenses - from daily disposable lenses to bifocal contacts. Contact lenses are considered a medical device and require a full eye examination to determine your prescription and proper fit. Today there are many, many options for contact lens wearers including daily disposables, disposables, extended wear, planned replacement and conventional lenses. Patients with astigmatism can be fitted with specialty lenses called toric contact lenses.

Contact lenses are made of many different types of plastic, but they are divided into two main groups - soft and rigid gas permeable (RGP lenses). Soft contacts are the most comfortable because they contain from 25% to 79% water and are typically easy to adapt to. Rigid gas permeable contact lenses can take longer to adapt to, but are more durable and more resistant to deposit buildup. They offer patients with certain prescriptions crisper vision than they would have with soft contacts.

The replacement schedule of a contact lens refers to how long you can safely wear your lens to maintain the health of your cornea. Below are the average schedules for wearing the most popular types of contact lenses. As with any prescription, Dr. Larson or Dr. Lavey will advise you on how long to wear your contact lenses and when they should be replaced.

  1. Daily Disposable - Replace Every Day
  2. Disposable - Removed Nightly & Replaced Every Two Weeks
  3. Extended Wear - Worn Continuously and Replaced Every 1 to 4 weeks
  4. Planned Replacement - Replace Every 1 to 3 months
  5. Conventional - Replace Yearly

Visit Our Cataract Center

Cataract patients now have the option to have their vision corrected to allow them to see at both near and far distances after cataract surgery! These lens implants provide significantly reduced dependence on glasses for all tasks of daily living, providing a range of focus that laser vision correction cannot achieve. Individuals with visual impairment suffering from cataracts previously had only a mono-focal lens implant option after surgery.
